Overview
Located in Portsmith, the HMAS Cairns built a new facility to house the Naval Cadets for the Cairns Area. The facility includes training rooms, a boat house and parade areas for the Naval Cadets.
Hutchinson Builders connected with Cairns Fencing to design and install a fencing solution to secure the facility while providing a consistent look that complements the building. The fencing scope, valued at approximately $180,000, and was completed in September 2025.
Challenge
The project required a combination of fencing types including chainwire fencing, aluminium fencing (vertical and horizontal), decorative fabricated aluminium screening and an automated gate. The installation of these fencing options also needed to be durable and provide safety for the Cadets using the facility.
Solution
Works included the fabrication and installation of aluminium press point fencing, black top and bottom rail chainwire fencing, BARR aluminium fencing, and vertical aluminium battens. The project also incorporated an automated gate, which included the automated sliding press point for the gate.
Outcome
The project delivered a modern and custom fencing solution that supports both the security, safety and aesthetic design of the HMAS Cairns Naval Cadets facility.
